Its been over a year since I graduated from FIDM (Fashion Institute of Design Merchandising) and I must say that I really do miss the early morning bart rides to the city, rushing through that long elevator line to get to class and all those crazy assignments that had us stressed through-out the quarters. It seems like it was just yesterday, I was learning how to sketch and sew, identify fabrics, and dare I say complete a tech pack. It was the most extensive studying and hard labor work that I’ve ever been through and who ever thinks Fashion school is easy better think again. To be honest with you, I would have never imagined that I would be in this industry but fashion has always been a love of mine and I’ve always wanted to have my own clothing line. I think that one day I just made the decision to stop dreaming about it regardless of what my parents thought or what anyone said so I applied to FIDM, got accepted and needless to say it was a turning point in my life.
Since graduating, things haven’t really worked out as planned. I decided not to do an internship but focus on my photography career instead. I don’t know what posessed me to make this decision or take such a huge risk but I think I owe it to my friend Bobbie Yanoupeth, a talented stylist whom I collaborated with back in Feb 2010. I shot some of his designs which were eventually published and well I guess the rest is history. I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t sewn or sketched anything in a year but my life thus far has been consumed with photography. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love fashion and still dream about creating my own line but for now my focus is on photography and I’m realizing that the two are very much intertwined. I think that’s why I’m starting this personal blog to show that I can infuse the 2 things that drive me and inspire me; my passion for photography and my love for fashion.
What to expect on this blog: Fashion, Photography & Me.. =)
